Motor City Race Report
Finally I’m in the top ten in my division, in 8th position. I felt it was my best race but I hate my swim time, it is the one thing that is killing my over all time. I swam the one mile course in 32 min. Although this was 4 min faster than last year, which some would say is good; this is the biggest difference between me and the 4th place position. Our bike time was the same but I had a better run time. His swim was 8 min faster; I guess I got more work to do in the pool.
The good part, I’m on the bike and as you know it was a rock and roll concert. I have so much fun on the bike passing people, I was only passed by one person at the beginning, that was my Computrainer coach Tony who was doing the sprint distance and he is good. As I am riding I’m saying to myself do you all realize this is a race. Belle Is. always has wind and today no wind until later in the race. I made up a lot of time during the bike I had an average time of 23.6 mph completing the course in 58:27. At one point during the bike I’m humming at 24mph passing folks and I see an illegal pace line of about 8 riders. I come up on the side of them at 27 mph to ensure no one tries to hang on and hold that pass for a good while (that felt so good).
Now for the run and to bring it home. I ran a 7:26 pace for 6.2 miles it felt good. I was passed by three people but I over took the first person who passed me on the second loop convincingly with a great negative split. I had a better run time than the 3rd-6th place as well as a faster bike time. I was so happy for the clouds today; it was a beautiful day and a great race. My overall time was 2:23:18, 9 min faster than last year’s time. Thanks Jordan and Dave for coming out to see me race.
